Pas sages

On paper, the encounter of a contemporary music ensemble and a bagpiper seems strange if not downright incongruous, given the connotation of the instrument. Yes, however Erwan Keravec is a virtuoso musician, spurred on by an irrepressible desire to strive for the emergence of new musical forms, with the ambition of creating a new repertoire for bagpipes. Here then, is Pas Sages [translator’s note: a pun on ’passages’ and pas sages, ’not sensible’], a concert of the third type!

Erwan Keravec plays in traditional duo at Fest Noz with his brother Guénolé, practices free improvisation with Beñat Achiary, Jean-Luc Cappozzo, ARFI (Association in Search of an Imaginary Folklore) and Camel Zékri, composes, plays and improvises for contemporary dance with Boris Charmatz, Daniel Linehan or Mickaël Phelippeau…
He has commissioned musical creations from a dozen contemporary composers and launched the Nu Piping #1 (solo bagpipes) and Nu Piping #2 (soprano, baritone and bagpipes) projects.

Alongside pieces composed for him by Bernard Cavanna, Zad Moultaka and Susumu Yoshida, Erwan will improvise with Sillages soloists… who, in turn, will perform pieces by Mincek, Cendo and Blondeau that will take your breath away!

Bernard Cavanna : L’accord ne muse pas la nuit for pipe
Alex Mincek : Pendulum III for saxophone alto and piano
Zad Moultaka : La mélancolie du diable for pipe and recorded sounds
Raphaël Cendo :
Furia for cello and piano
Susumu Yoshida : Inori for pipe
Thierry Blondeau : Qui joue quoi ? for saxophone and accordeon
